This guy is brand new today! I like how these two morphs came together. Already looking forward to Pastel Super Mystics.

Thanks for looking,
Dan

Beautiful! I love how the black outlines the bold yellow, but has gorgeous blushing inbetween. Great pattern too. Congrats!

Hey Dan,
What is a Mystic, is it the "mystery gene" that combined with YB makes the SS? Is there a super form of Mystic, if so can you post a pic of a super Mystic?

You have some beautiful calicos. I believe you started with one that didn't have a lot of white on him. Can you post pics of your original calico to show what can be done with a little bit of white in the calico.

You posted a while back about having kinking problems this year. It appears that you are having better luck. What happened, have you figured out the problem?

Thanks in advance, Mike

Hi Mike,

I'll do my best to answer your questions:

The Mystic morph originated from an African hatched baby that landed in the collection of Anthony McCain a few years ago. Many people (including myself) believe that it will prove to be another line of Phantom. To date, Mystic to Mystic offspring have not been produced, so at this point it is not even certain that there is a super form. I believe Anthony may have a shot at a super this coming breeding season.

You are correct, my original Calico male is a Flora & Fauna line Calico that is very low white - I'm talking individual white scales on each side. Interestingly, the amount of white of the offspring seems to have a lot to do with the mother. Usually all the offspring of a paticular female look pretty similar, and may be low, med, or high white regardless of what the Calico male looked like. It will be interesting to see what happens when we breed high white to high white. The Super Calico that Morton Wright produced this summer was from fairly low white parents.

I've never really had any kinking problems. I was complaining a couple weeks ago about suffering from some lousy odds.......but lately things have been hatching out very favorably.

Hope this helps,
Dan

Dan,
Thanks for the reply. I was almost certain that it was you asking in a post about what could cause kinking and that a large number of your first clutches were kinked. The poster even thought it might be an excessive moisture problem and that some later clutches were using no-substrate and you were anxious to see if those clutches did better.

Is the Mystic the other ingredient for the SS?

Thanks Mike

Mike,
Specter is the other ingredient for the SS.

Albey
Good to hear from you. I knew Spector was one of the names used, I thought Mystic might be another name for the same thing.

Do you remember who posted a while back about kinking problems?

Thanks Mike

Het Super Stripe/Whirlwind/Mystery Gene/ Specter is a more accurate way to put that... The Specter name was actually the LAST name to be labeled on the ingredient gene that makes the Super Stripes... Jarod called them Specters some months AFTER Tom , BHB, and myself were calling them Hets, Whirlwinds, or Mystery genes.. Guess that Jarod decided that since he had them for all that time without naming them that he should come up with a name for the morph , since he was the originator of the first SS's his name is most readily used to describe the morph . Oddly enough the FIRST gene carrier morph was actually sold by me as a Whirlwind since the Specter name didn't actually exist at that time!! Interesting stuff, one would have thought if a person knew what the gene looked like all along he would have named it along time ago! Makes you scratch your head why more Super Stripes were not made early on considering that once you understood the project all you really would need to do is take a male Specter (or whatever you decide to call that Mystery gene) back to adult YB's to make alot more than just the Super Stripes your original gene carrier could make on her own using a Yb against her. Guess it must have just been a way protecting the rarity of them early on when they were the most valuable, that just had to be it!! Anthony McCain.

Very nice photos Dan! Since your pics turn out so well please post pics of the Pastel Mystic next to a couple regular Mystics once they shed.. Nice work man!!! I hope to share a few pics of this cross as well in about a week! Looks like it turned out like we had figured , puts even more evidence for the project out there I think.. Later, Anthony McCain..
