Timber Rattler- Brown Co. Indiana-Nice!

HandofMidas Sep 24, 2008 12:59 PM

Found this Timber across the trail while Mtn biking in Brown County Indiana, just east of the State Park, on the Nebo Ridge trail. Its beautiful, and my bad camera doesnt do it justice! i swear there was even more yellow on it then the pic shows, i was really blown away. this was also my first timber find ever, being from northern illinois and all. It never rattled or anything, just slowly crawled along. it was awesome.

Nice Timber!
I almost went there last week when on vacation. But decided to go for Kings in Madison County. I'm still kicking myself.

Very nice find! Brings back childhood memories.

The second most Yellow Timber I ever found was in Brown County State Park. It was a brighter and more "classic" sulfur-phase than any snake I have seen from the northeastern mountains.

The number-one most beautiful Timber I ever saw was from just across the border into Illinois. It was a 4 1/2' male. Lemon-yellow with almost no dark suffusion in the groundcolor, very little in the way of a reddish vertebral stripe, and no postorbital stripe at all.

People often don't know that sulfur-phase timbers occur in the central and western parts of its range. Some of the sulfurs from extreme northwestern Illinois, Wisconsin, and Iowa are extremely beautiful.

Cheers,
