"Red Phase" Hognose

I've been to several reptile expos where breeders are selling western hatchlings supposedly coming from "red" bloodlines. They appear to be more brown, but each breeder claims that they will become more red as they age. Is it worth the risk to pay such a premium for them? In anyone's experience, can red hognose snakes metamorphosize with age?
