Typical refrain - hog won't eat

avidgravid Sep 25, 2008 09:47 PM

I've got a 2 year old male Western Hog. Purchased on 6/9/08, and ate like a champ weekly until 8/14/08. Hasn't eaten since. I don't have a scale, so I don't know if he's lost much weight. He looks okay. I've tried a few things, such as leaving him for a time in a smaller container with a f/t. Also tried to interest him in a brained fuzzy. No luck. There's been no changes in his environment to stress him out -- no traffic walkign by. I did introduce a female into his cage after she shed, hoping for a possible late season love connection. Maybe he's pining for his honey? Any advice greatly appreciated. Thanks, Rick

My reply from the other thread:

One of the things I would do when one went "off feed" was to remove the water dish from the tank for a few days. When you're ready to try feeding again, (get a frozen pink) soak the pinkie until it's dripping wet, then place directly in front of hoggie's nose. Usually they come up and start to sip the water of the pink and kind of automatically start to eat it. Not every time, but it's worked for me about 75% of tries.

Try it, it works.

Good luck,

joe
