New Leopard gecko owner and has question

Dkotaa Sep 25, 2008 10:27 PM

I recently bought a leopard gecko from PetLand about a month or so ago. While I was buying eveything it'll need and more I inquired about when it should be shedding. The lady replied 'right away, like a week.' My leopard gecko hasn't shed yet, and I'm curious. I have a container filled with moss and i mist it everyday but it doesn't seem to be going toward it.

Do you have any advice?
One more thing... do I feed it as much as I do now when it starts to shed, because it eats it's shedding right?

Since Leopard Gecko's are active at night you might have missed it shedding. If petland is a chain I would not trust what they say. I would say if it hasnt shedded yet then it will shed in a month or less

Leopard geckos shed fairly quick, and as other people have said you probably did miss it. And yes they eat their shed but you shouldn't change your feeding amount or schedule just because it's shedding.

They will occasionally refuse food while shedding, but this usually only lasts for a day or so. I concur with the others who say it's easy to miss it happening. I usually don't catch mine in the act. What usually happens is that I or my girlfriend notice that she's getting pale, and then a day or two later she's brightly colored again, indicating that she has shed. It's not a big deal, and it sounds like you've got the right setup in there for yours, so you have very little to worry about. Just make sure to check the little guy's toes for stuck shed every now and then and you'll be fine.

ok for this post I have to post this pic..
If you notice your gecko is getting pale, mine usually turns white, then I know its soon. I'm up late alot, so I usually catch her in the act. It doesnt affect her eating habits usually.
