This girl is pretty cool looking, was sent to me as an eastern but looks like it may have some plains influence in it too.

This is the first axanthic Chicago garter that I'm aware of. She looks really pretty in person, it's hard to capture her true blue coloration on film.

Gorgeous snakes! My favorite two are the first and the Black Neck. I love the Black Necks - they make me drool. Stunning animals.

Man those babies are nice! Glad to here that the redsided is eating for you too! Hopfully she keeps it up.

Later,
Dan

Scott_Felzer Sep 28, 2008 06:58 PM

Thanks Dan, like I said was real happy that the red sided female took the pinks. She needs to beef up quite a bit b4 brumation.

Hmm, puzzling! I had a few babies this year that looked very much like that, but have grown darker since. They came from a big female of mine that has much less brown than other garters in my area, and the male pictured below. The plains I've seen out here seem to have either a lot of brown or a lot of green in them. Do you know where the female hails from?

It was my understanding that she was found in Indiana/Illinois border area.
