The pic. of Joel R's. hondo is touching & I hope it is not to late for it. Well the material is in fact what is to become part of the intestinal tract of the snake once it is fully asorbed the skin heals right over leaving a little hardly noticable line(a belly button) being though it is the equivalent of an umbilical cord in most mammals. The catch is to not let it dry out I usually keep my slighty undeveloped young in the incubator a few extra days w/ the humidity & the material is asorbed. Put the young animal ,as it happens in all egg laying species that I've seen, on WHITE (no ink at all) paper towels inside a deli cup so it doesn't damage itself by moving around. It has worked for my clutches of anoles & kingsnakes. Remember don't let it dry out. Don't touch it except in extreme cases of tranfering herp to moist paper towel covered deli cup. Sorry for the reiteration but all life can be preserved if knowledged is shared & understood.
