Sterilite tub questions

Shadow4108 Sep 26, 2008 05:22 PM

Has anyone ever used the sterilite drawer systems? They look like they might be able to escape, but I don't know. Anyway on to my actual question..
What sizes do most people use?
I was looking and the 7qt and the 15qt look okay for hatchlings.
and the 34 and 40qt look okay for adults maybe?
And the 105qt for a breeding pair?
Also, do you find that they need a hide in these setups? Or are they usually okay as they get bigger?

What sizes should I shoot for?
Also, how many people feed in these?

I wouldn't use the drawer systems exactly like you said, easy to break out of. I had thought about it though, decided not to because they're so flimsy. There may be some way to strengthen them but I'm not sure.

I use 7qt for hatchlings up to about 300g. Then switch to 15qt until they're about 600g or so. Then switch to 34t. Males can usually stay in 34qt tubs for a while.

All my breeder females are in 40qt, most of them are around 1500 to 2000g. I give smaller snakes hides, but breeder females are fine without hides. I feed all my snakes in their tubs and they do great.
Hope this helps.

I thought drawer systems looked like a handy way to go and looked at several of them. I picked one that looked to me like it was more secure than most and set up a half dozen to see what would happen. Twenty minutes later, two snakes were in thier hides and four were out of thier drawers. If you find one that works well, please let me know.

I'm using two different kinds right now. I've got 2 sterilite ultra drawers I got from walmart, they're fully enclosed on both sides, back, and top the bottom has openings on the case under the tub which works great for air ventilation for UTH's. All I did was buy some soft/non abrasive mesh screen and duct tape it over the top of the actual tubs and cut the centers out so only about 1.5-2" of mesh is left on all sides. This way when the snakes crawl up the sides to get out( as they usually do) they hit the mesh, and they can't hold their bodies up enough to get out the center without some support, never had an escapee from this system. The other ones I have I also got from walmart, they're sterilites too can't remember what kind though. They are enclosed on both sides, top, and bottom and back is open. All I did with these is used the same mesh screen as the others but taped it tight to the back of the drawer, so if anyone DID get out of the tub they would still be in the drawer. Never had an escapee with these ones either!! They work great for now, but I still want to get some ballroom racks or something later down the line.
