Strange "tooth"?

Okay- last month I found an adult leopard gecko at a local pet chain- he was in pretty dismal condition, all fat and lethargic from being kept in a tiny little cage and missing lots of toes from bad sheds. I talked the chain into giving him to me and took him home and got him set up in a 30 gallon setup. He's already loosing weight, has gone through a successful shed, and seems to be doing much better, but there is one thing I was unsure of that I thought I would ask you guys.

This gecko had a strange tooth-like thing on the end of his snout, just in front of his mouth. I was never too sure what it was. Today while I was taking him out to check on him it fell off. Now, I'm assuming that this is a good thing, as I don't think that he was supposed to HAVE that strange growth to begin with, but I thought it would be best to ask about it here.

You can see a pretty decent picture showing his "tooth" at that link.

My guess is that he scratched it somehow. As the spot was healing, he shed poorly in that spot, then the hung-to skin hardened making it look like a toothy protrusion.

That makes sense.

It really doesn't surprise me that he had something like that, with the condition he was in when I got him.
