I have bad days too. Sometimes, runs of poor luck that last for weeks.
It may be also that you haven't found a sweet spot, yet. Just keep looking!
Matthew
You have to be persistent went hunting herps. I have had many days without finding anything of interest. I have not seen much of anything other than DOR black rat snakes here lately. My friend saw an eastern king crossing the road near Piedmont today though. I personally haven't had much luck this year in the upstate. Most of my findings have actually been near Columbia, SC this year. I think herp populations are highly cyclical and some years they just aren't that common. I like searching through Congaree Swamp National Park near Columbia. You can't take anything, but you will see a lot of snakes and other cool wildlife. I have seen some interesting species at Paris Mtn State Park here in G'ville: hognose, kingsnake, greens, etc. Jones Gap State Park is flooded with copperheads, but I find most on the roads around the park and have never seen any while hiking because they're so hard to spot. Try moving around a lot with your herping if you can travel. If I don't see anything within an hour or 1/2 hour I usually go to another location. Snakes seem to move in patterns, so when you see one, look for more in that particular area. Roadkills are unpleasant but should be identified to gain clues of what snakes are present in that general area.
Good luck and keep trying,
Justin
Ok i"ll keep trying. Hopefully ill soon find something! I know there their but i just cant find them yet. Ill be trying some new spots soon though!
Thanks,
Kyle
