I usually hold snakie while letting him cruise/explore on my bed at the same time.
Would it be okay to actually let go of the snake and let him roam around under supervision?
Will he make a dash for it?

I think it would be OK as long as you give him a stern talking to prior to setting him free. It's very important to set clear guidelines for your animals in order for them to behave appropriately.
