Going snake hunting this weekend

HalfDead Sep 29, 2008 09:21 AM

I live in south florida (Broward County)and I am planning to go snake hunting in the near future. We used to climb trees and would usually comback with tons of ratsnakes (yellow rats and red rats)

What would be a good was to hunt if looking for kings like scarlet and brooks.

Just go rock flipping or are there some tricks that i dont know about?

any info is appreciated

If you're going to stay in Broward, your chances of finding any kings are pretty slim. Scarlet kings are probably out of the question. You could trying walking canal banks or flipping trash in areas of sawgrass or melaleuca marshlands. Florida kings are pretty rare in Broward these days, so your chance of finding them is pretty slim.

If you really want to find kings, drive up US 27 to the sugar cane fields in Palm Beach County and walk canal banks and flip trash. if you can't find trash, you can flip rocks, but it is a lot of work. The whole area is loaded with FL kings, and scarlet kings are moderately common.
