i recently got a young pilbara rock monitor. he is awsome in every way, and seems extremey healthy. the problem is that when i got him he was a little on the skinny side, and hasnt improved much. i will repeat he is very active, and seems very healthy. i was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of anything i could give him to help fatten him up a little? any input will be greatly appreciated

Have you considered taking a fecal sample to the vet for parasites? That is usually my first step with any animal that isnt gaining weight.

it isnt that hes not gaining weight, he was real thin when i got him, and has improved. the previous owner really took lousy care of him, and it shows. he was checked out by a vet, and other than the physical problems suffered from the last keeper, he is fine. he did take a few wax worms yesterday, and is lookin a little fatter. i was more or less looking for any dietary suggestions other than mice crickets wax worms and egg. but thanks for the thought. of course thats always step one in a situation when you get an animal whos a little beat up, and is worth a lot of money.

Vet would be the first option if it gets bad. I would just keep feeding him wax worms for that they are fatty and helps in those situations. Raw ground turkey is good for them. Sometimes they won't eat it at first just add a little bit of egg yolk to the ground turkey and you should have a feeding response. Good luck

thanks, hes getting fatter since in my care. im looking for foods that will do just that, add fat a little quicker. ive added butter worms to his diet, which was quite a success, 9 in 9 down within 15 mins. but ill try the ground turkey. ive used it with my ackies, but it wasnt a favorite so i cut it out. again thanks for the advice and help.
