moldy egg

tk15b30 Sep 29, 2008 06:22 PM

Ok so I have a egg incubating at 84-86 temp wise. Today I noticed some mold growing on the top of it! How do i stop this from happening? i have heard of rubbing foot powder on it... does this work? Are there any other suggestions? I know that the egg is fertile and dont want to loose it! Help please, Thanks for any posts

I have had this problem before it is not very uncommon if the moisture is even slightly high in incubation area. To be the safest I just use luke warm water and a q-tip to clean the mold off the egg being very gentle not to damage it. the mold usualy does not return. If it does you can mix a very very small amount like 1/100 mixture of water and bleach. use very small amount of bleach. I have used this method very successfully to a fair number of eggs from leopards and cresties with no ill effects yet.

To be honest I wouldn't use foot powder for this - the egg shell would in fact absorb it and you don't know what effects this may have. You may want to take the lid off for air exchange (obviously for a few minutes) and ensure that the tub isn't holding any condensation in.
