I just bought some of the new ones and they are the same size as the old ones. I think I have the same model. I'll try to check later on tonight.

I didn't buy any,but the new ones had an arched top rather than the flat sort of top of the old. I'm going to go to another Walmart tommorrow and see if I can find the old ones and compare the bottoms.

I was at Wally World tonight and the old ones were still there, but they had gone up $ .20 each. ($ .97 up to $1.17).

Went to another Walmart today and they didn't have the #1752s anymore. The new one is #1851,clearer, cheaper feeling/flexible. By the way BigHurt I checked out the Large ARS racks at the Daytona show and the 9" version of yours did also slide nicely in the track. Thanks again for your info.

Bob,

Sorry, I have the 1851's. Interestingly enough they have two versions of this one as well. Or maybe I should say they have a new label. The boxes are identical as far as I can tell.

If the 1752 is the box I'm thinking of those were very nice and a better hatchling box (than the 1851) in my opinion. I sold the rack I built for the previous Sterilite shoe box, which I assume was the 1752, so I can't go look and check.

It's been a while. I guess change is inevitable? Oh well. I did pick up a few of the Rubbermaid Latchables and they seem to hold tight pretty well.

While I was at Daytona I saw some guys who had intergraded I think the Black and green varities of the animals you work with and they were displaying/handling a very calm black snake with green centers to it's scales. Kind of interesting. MANY people were taking it's pic.I wish I could remember the name "oxi..." Something. You may already be familiar.

That's Freight Freightas. I think he has reserved the domain name oxyjansen.com since his first Gonyosoma breedings were between a green G. oxycephalum and a black G. janseni.

He and I have swapped quite a few animals back and forth recently. He got all of both of my locales of G. janseni and my sole Malaysian G. oxycephalum. I now have all Indonesian G. oxycephalum.

I give him credit -- the hybrids have turned out to be much more popular than I ever anticipated. I should be going to his place this winter so that will be my first chance to see them in person.

Yup, that sounds like him. Immeadiately thought of you. As a complete outsider to your focus there, I have to admit that animal he was handling was sort of mesmerizing.

Chris_Harper2 Oct 01, 2008 03:01 PM

They are incredible snakes. I have kept both the greens and blacks so I can only imagine what a hybrid is like. He has sent me hundreds of pictures but I think one has to see them in person.

Are you keeping Mountain Kingsnakes now?

It certainly was something to see in person. And it was EXTREMELY calm and laid back. A large group of folks were fussing all around it,taking pictures and it only looked amused. A friend had the green one when we were kids and he could only get it to eat parakeets (cost prohibitive) and it was not at all a handleable snake.

I have some, locale and generic. Sweet animals.

What subspecies & locales do you keep? I saw some L. p. pyromelana and L. p. knoblochi for sale this past weekend but neither inspired me enough to buy. Now that I have the pair of Pale Milksnakes I'm thinking about adding a few more small terrestrials. Leaning towards L. m. thayeri.

Patagonia.

Thayeri are nice. I have been tempted by some of the high orange sort of Oakatee looking and the pure black forms that folks like Vivd reptiles breeds. Sort of nice to occasionally start a few projects just to keep your interest fresh. Also sweet dispositions and small enough not to demand much space, real positives for them as a choice.

That hybrid was beautiful.

I have always wanted to work with Gonysoma oxycephala. What does a CBB Red Tailed Rat go for?

chris_harper2 Oct 01, 2008 10:39 PM

I think Freight Freightas has them for about $250 to $300, depending on color and locality.

If you like the green specimens and prefer a larger and calmer snake, then the Malaysians are the way to go. I don't keep any Malaysians anymore.

If you like the variety and the ability to produce the occasional silver/gray specimen, then the Indonesian's are the way to go. With Indonesians both Green x Green and a Gray x Gray matings can produce a combination of green and gray babies, with no blending of colors.

Both are wonderful snakes, but I pretty much prefer everything about the Indonesians. They are more aggressive but I rarely handle mine and the CBB specimens never bite.

I only have one adult pair right now, my only imports left. Female has been in my care for years but has never really thrived so I'm not expecting much from that pairing. Other than that pair my CBB and CH specimens are still a year or so away from breeding.

If you like glossy black snakes then I highly recommend the Seleyar G. janseni. I traded all of mine off to Freight after finding that the 2.2 I had turned out to be 0.4. I think these could become very popular.

Sorry for the lengthy reply to such a simple question.

I do want to add that all of the other "CB" G. oxycephalum on the market are actually captive hatched. As a Morelia viridis keeper I'm sure you appreciate the difference. Not that there is the market equivalent of a captive hatched Chondro but I suppose it's somehwhat similar to the farmed stuff ending up in the facilities of overcrowded importers in the US.

I have many of the CH specimens and they can still be a lot of work. I don't think they're worth much more than $100 each.

1752 has been discontinued for almost 2 years. They have been selling old stock since.

I agree, and aren't the new 6 qt ones taller? so that you can't use in your old racks.
