Hi. Back in June I got help from here on what to do with my rat snake with RI. In the last few weeks, I saw the occasional gaping so the heat lamp went on and off. I finally decided that another trip to the vet was in order.
Today she went in and this time I got to see her get inspected. First the vet inspected her mouth, then he felt her breathing. He took a swab of her mouth and left the room to check it out. When he got back, he listened to her breathing for a while with a stethoscope. He said her breathing sounded good and the saliva sample was clean. He concluded that there was no RI, but there was some scar tissue in her lung that he said could take a few months to fully heal.
This is the first sick snake I've had and in all the reading I've done about RI, I never saw anywhere that mentioned the scar tissue part. Has anyone here heard of that?
Just thought I'd give an update.
Thanks
jorj
