Anyone Experience With Water Monitors?

CpuMonitor Sep 06, 2003 04:00 PM

I'm beginning to stretch my field of lizards to include large monitors. I'm planning to purchase a good baby asian water monitor V.Salvator. I know most of the basics but I want to know a bit more details from people that have kept these giant lizards before. Any tricks in taming, feeding, etc. Temperature, things like that. Any words of wisdom will be very gratifying. Anything that you learn from keeping these guys.

First the bad news. Please give some silence as my little dog Max just pasted away today, I loved him more than my life and more than anything. He was there with me, thick through thin and he will always be my top pet. I will meet him again when I die (hopefully soon). I keep forgetting his gone from this world, I miss him so much. Memory Of Max, I Love You Little Guy.

Good News:

I got my baby asian water monitor. And for how much? $100 only and he is doing fantastic. He is particially tamed (not sick). He ate the crickets greedily. He got large bright eyes, a bit on the skinny side but hey he's still a baby. No bumps, no scratches, I would say perfect. I am so happy. But I can't forget about my dog! I miss him so much! God!!!

Hey thanks for the helps though guys, I'm going to check out those sites. Thanks!

Sorry to hear about your dog.. I'm facing the same thing with my Stormy.. A German Shepherd mix.. she's getting pretty old... can't move around as well..

See my thing is, I failed. It is all my fault my dog died. I shoulda pulled in all the money I could to help him, instead I went with the cheap way out, what a dumb a**. If I stayed there during the night he was struggling, he could have survived. If I knew the symptoms earlier I could have rescued him. Man! It is all my fault, that is way I'm feeling so horrible. He's only 8-9 yrs old. Thats not old in dog years. I vow from now on whenever I get a pet, I'll do my all to provide anything it needs.

I can't forget him....I love him so much but I help killed him....

Don't be too hard on yourself. We all make mistakes..the thing is to learn from them and try not to repeat them. For small dogs, 9 years old isn't too old but the larger you get the shorter the lifespan. My German shepherd mix, Storm is around 9 years old. She may live another year if I'm lucky..Though, thankfully, I have Loki.. a Belgian Shepherd/wolf mix who's only 2. It'll help having him around when she passes away.

Yes, defiantely check out Pro Exotics. There is no better place to get waters, period.

Mine is two years old and quite a handfull. You can learn a lot from these animals but please, please, please understand they are going to be HUGE!! And the "cool" factor wears off very quickly with HUGE animals.
