Difference Between Borneo And Red Blood?

dloper2 Oct 01, 2008 03:16 PM

In late July, I bought what I was told is a Red Blood python at a reptile show. She was 3 months when I got her, which makes her approximately 6 months old now. When I first got her, she was reluctant to eat, and it took about a month to get her to eat her first pinkie. However, she now takes a fuzzy about every other week...she seems to only eat when she is extremely hungry and prefers f/t. She is about 16 inches long. I don't know if she is really a Red Blood- I would have expected her to be bigger at this point. This combined with her sweet disposition has made me wonder if she is really a Borneo.
Here is a pic of her.
What does everybody think?

Definitely Python brongersmai or red blood python. They can take jumbo mice at that age with no problem.

Since I know I have a red blood python now, and have looked at all of the posting showing beautiful adults, I am curious to know what an unattractive adult looks like. Basically, because I picked this girl up from a show, and know nothing about her parenting, I'm wanting to know what the worst case scenerario could be.

Anybody up for showing me some uglies?

Probably not, because I have yet to see an ugly blood. Then again, I think I am biased.

...Is there even such a thing? I don't think there is an UGLY Blood either.

I really dont think so. I have seen ugly other snakes, but I have yet to see a blood python of any species that I could call ugly.

thanks for all the info and quick replies! I'm really excited to hear from all of you that you've never seen an "ugly" blood, to tell the truth in all of my online searching neither did I.

I have one other quick question, my local pet store owner said he had a pair of breeder bloods that were huge, he said the female was 8 foot and the male was at least 6 feet. Online I have seen a wide array of sizes for the bloods, anything from 4 feet to a reported 9 feet. What should I expect for my female (on average)?

Yeah, I think that holds for many snakes. Bloods especially, but to my mind, all natural phases of Cornsnake are beautiful. Now some designer morphs.. "nuff said.
Ok, I'm sort of a purist, nothing looks better than the origional. LOL
