2008 Spilotes Hatchling

BrianSharp Oct 02, 2008 10:57 PM

Thought I'd share a photo I took today of a 2008 male. He's only had three sheds, but the extensive yellow and orange is starting to show. Like all Spilotes, he will "color up" as he grows and matures. A female that hatched about a week ago from the dam's second clutch looks very promising with a combination of overall yellow and prominent bands. She hasn't had her first shed yet.

As someone said in a recent post, Spilotes are the ultimate display animal. I stopped using hide boxes in my adult cages, because they never use them. They seem perfectly content to hang out in the branches for all to see.

Here's a bigger image of the same photo. I'm still learning the fine points of photo manipulation, transfer etc.

Wow Brian!
Those snakes breathtaking, can't wait to see them in a year!
Where are those guys from?
It's only 9:30 on the west coast.

Why, they came from my basement of course! LOL

I knew somebody was going to tell me how early it was on the left coast.

My CB adult pair, along with a second, closely related adult pair that my good friend Don Bordner has, came from an individual in CA. Despite our best efforts, details regarding geographic origin of the stock really aren't available. There is a lot of speculation, but nothing concrete.

I wish I could find such incredible animals in my basement.
But I don't even have a basement.

Hehe.

Dan. Is that where most of those high yellows came from? Is anyone working with those High yellows around besides you and Don?
Nate

Nate,

Don and I have only produced a small number of the truly high yellow animals so far, and neither of us has sold any of them. I'm donating three of mine to a zoo this fall, but that's it as far as I know.
