Photo of Adult Female Spilotes

Although it is a pretty crummy shot, this gives you a decent idea of the coloration and pattern of the adult female. She has a very high percentage of rather pale yellow. The male is also an exceptional animal, but has a smaller amount of really intense yellow with some areas of orange. Most of the offspring from '07 and '08 have shown the influence of both parents.

she looks awsome ........I have a question...I have a pair of cb spilotes they both started out eating very well one still eats rat fuzzie every 7 days the other stopped eating 3 offers no takers the question ....do these snakes go off feed like a pine snakes do? thanks for the info Joe

Joe,

I haven't noticed juvenile or sub-adult Spilotes going off feed like ball pythons or some colubrids. It's getting close to breeding season, and if your animals are adults that might explain it. There is also a seasonal change underway from summer to fall, and that could be a factor as well.

brian, that female is smoking!! my female is also a pale yellow but butt ugly compared to yours. haha...my pair has also stopped eating the last month or so which is a first for me. they've been unstoppable up until recently.

Joe,
How are you feeding them? My female likes alot of action from the F/T prey, I usually offer small items every 5 days and she'll skip every once in a while but gets an extra the next feeding.
Nate

heres an old video of her eating

Nate, I have been feeding them rat pinks every 5 days nothing has changed the temps are the same lighting is the same ..........I think it may have taken a break. I have offered day old quail chicks [snake candy] mouse fuzz/hopper even pinks. just is not intrested right now. I thought these tropical snakes ate year round.I have been breeding snakes 30 years, I know snakes go off feed even milk snakes have gone 2 month with out eating, forget about pits they change their menu like a underwear change very often! well anyway this is my 1st time working with tropical [non brumating] snakes I will just keep offering different thing until it clicks thanks for everything and info ......Joe

Joe I think you have it under control, just remember they are snakes and who knows why they don't eat sometimes. Man thats a great looking Northern, probably the nicest I've seen. I hear you on the Pits, I couldn't handle the pickyness of the males it drove me crazy. Where's the pics of your Spilotes and don't you have some Drymarchon too?
