is he a male?

wootton62 Sep 06, 2003 05:31 PM

i bought a striped male, well it is supposed to be a he but doesnt look like it at all, no lumps or even the begginings of them. it was born on 05/15/03, its almost 4 months old and its weight is 20.9 grams, shouldnt it be showing signs of being a he by now? is it old enough to now for me to contact the breeder and ask them to send me another that will be a male? the breeder is great so i dont wanna mention who they are, b/c they dont deserve negative feedback but should i ask them to send me a new male?
thanks
garett

this individual could just be a slow developer. 4 months and 20g's isn't very large, and they are a bit more difficult to sex at that age, but still pretty easy. i'd wait for it to be atleast 6 months before you contact the breeder.

unfortunately, when you buy a lizard that is "temp sexed". The leo not being the sex you wanted is a risk you take. I hate to say it, but I really don't think it's the breeder's responsibility to get a male to you if this one turns out to be female. I'm very sorry. Hopefully the breeder's nice, and can take the leo back, but don't be too dissapointed or have any hard feelings if you cannot exchange the leo for a male (although i know that a LOT of breeders this year got more males than they bargained for, you you may be in luck).

Good luck with your leo's gender confusion... I'll keep my fingers crossed that his balls drop.

it said on there site when temp sexed male we 100% garentee the sex of the leo.

is it from tremper? i think that at 90 degrees, 100% will be males, it has been for me, and i think many breeders claim this too.

Well if they guarntee it, tell them to Make like the mens warehouse and back it up! Best start getting in contact with them now. How long have you had it? The whole process of replacing/returning it is going to suck. They can't give your origional price back because you've probably had it for a while and you've turned it into a healthy femal taht they could sell for way more now than they could have when you first bought her. I dunno what you want to do... but whatever it is, good luck.
