Dont know what it is about these animals........ but I just love 'em.

They look very much alike - '07 female on top and '06 male on bottom.

These are Big Pine Key locale snakes. I also have a clutch of Boot Key locale that I'm just getting on scented pinks now. I'll get some photos of them up as soon as they get feeding good.

I would love to see the Boot Key hatchlings. Do they all have orange ventral scales? I had one when I was a kid. It was sold to me as a run of the mill corn, which back then I beleived. As I researched more and learned I realized it was a rosy. It was a good feeling as a kid to be able to identify something correctly and that cemented my love of snakes. I plan on going to the keys this spring, maybe I'll see one and get a pic.

That's cool Matt.

Yeah, the boot key animals all have really red / orange bellies and overall look very much like baby bloodreds.

I'll get some photos up soon. I'm just trying not to mess with them too much until I get them well established.

Thanks.

I see there are some Key Largo locale rosy's in the classifieds. Are most of the key corns similar looking or are there differences? I'm thinking of purchasing a pair. I like the look of yours.

The Rosy Rats do vary alot.. In my opinion the very best ones have no black in the borders, and are hypo looking, and have no ventral patterning at all. Just a color gradient from white to orange or red.

I think the Keys animals that are closer to the 'mainland' tend to have more black and tend to have some ventral pattern going on.

They are beautiful .. is it true that the key corns don't grow as large as other localities ?

Yes, they are typically about two feet, with larger exceptions. Not as large as mainland corns though.

Should have said 2-3 feet average.

what i was thinking.... They stay somewhat more slender than corns and usually in the 3 or so foot range at adults.

My Big Pine Key animals grow very quickly and my '06 males are in the neighborhood of three feet already.

Hey Matt ( oh great, now I'm talking to myself! LOL)

Dick Bartlett says all the Key corns are extremely variable, & come in at least 4 discreet color phases. I have yet to see all of these pictured, usually see either "Classic" roseis or Silvers. There is a chocolate phase too..
