Wow...I really like that orangish red color on her. But be careful Mike....you might end up having a collection of thousand snakes!

You can never have only one snake!
Not a chance Tony.. As you know I am far too busy with work, kids, and life to add more animals to my collection at this point.

Great looking Agalma Mike....
What ever happened to the Anery and Hypo-E Agalma?
Are they still around? Is anyone working with them?
I thought Terry Dunham had a substantial breeding group back around 2002 or so.....

two fold John. The anerythristic agalma was from the southern form of the agalma range, Sierra de San Pedro Martir mountains. It was a one-of-a-kind snake found by Paul Lynum back in the mid-90's. This animal was bred to a couple northern form agalmas (Sierra Juarez mountains) due to the unavailability of a female as Martir agalma are rare and extremely difficult to find in their range. What came of this locality hybridization were het anery Juarez x Martir, but unfortunately many of these offspring perished over the years for various reasons. But a few did remain. Unfortunately, the sole anerythristic agalma also met it's demise several years ago as well.
As for the hypoE agalma, that is questioned by few but the evidence suggests (as per my production this year) that the hypoE gene is present. The photos below are evident of this trait and will be 100% proof positive when I raise one of the males and breed back to mom or one of his siblings. Hope this all makes sense.
HypoE dam (also from remaining Juarez x Martir project)

Another shot of her

Her mate (sire, and also from Juarez x Martir project)

Comparison photo of siblings from a clutch of nine -- hypoE to the left and normal sibling to the right. In total, four hypoE offspring and five normal (possible het??)

Another shot

Another hypoE offspring

And another normal sib

Lastly, a pure Martir agalma

As far as production of an anerythristic agalma from the Juarez x anery Martir cross, there may have been some element of outcrossing but how far removed I am not sure. This mating occurred around '96, so the remaining ones are not TOO far removed but have changed hands a few times so one can not be completely sure as to the possibilities. Even with my extensive research there may be a link missing, but the possibility is always there.....a crap shoot. Thanks for looking.

Thanks Jerry.. I was hoping that you would answer John's question..
See you soon!

You and I are reverse images with our collections -- you've got it practically covered with every locality and look to the alterna and have added a couple zonata.
I'm two subspecies short (for now) of having it covered with zonata with minimum two locales on each, but added a couple alterna. LOL. Yeah, see you on November 1st in LI. I'll try not to be late for set-up -- I've gotten a bit aloof since my last show (I wanna say 2001?). Currently working on new displays with little time to do it. I feel your pain with life's pulls Mike -- between the hospital, kiddies, the wife's "honey-do" list, domestic engineering, et al.......the snakes typically get cleaned when I should be off to bed. Passion versus addiction...

John,
I don't know if Terry Dunham is still in possession of any agalma. I know he was working with hypoE pyromelana, as is Jeff Teel. As far as any agalma, I believe he may have had a pair from the anery Martir/Juarez cross some years ago, but I also don't know their status. I don't know of any other hypoE agalma, or at least ones that are being produced consistently, outside of my collection. How nice it woud be to see an anery agalma come out of an egg!

Thanks again for sharing the information Jerry.
You've got some awesome agalma....I like the hypoE in the first pic. Cool reduced head pattern....

Much appreciated John -- thank you. I'm hoping Terry will chime in at some point. If anything, let's shoot 'em an e-mail and ask. Funny, I was just communicating with him not long ago and it didn't dawn on me to ask. Toss up some pics of your gems man -- you have quite a few! Talk to you soon.

NOW we're talking man -- sooo nice. Those black mex mex are killer. The ones that Ric had (I think still possibly with Ryan H.) also were super nice. Great stuff John.
