Hello Adam,
I can't say for sure if your male was succesful at breeding, but it sounds like he is trying correctly at least. I usually don't see any of my animals breeding, they either wait until i'm gone or go under the papers. If you trying to breed him with 5 females i would not let him alone with any for a very long time, maybe an hour or two each. I have also been told that putting the male with all of the females usually works. But i have not done this myself since i only have one or two females for each male and just put him in with one at a time. I have generally got the eggs 6-8 weeks after breeding if it's succesful. I always use the pre-egg laying shed as an indicator. I always put an egg box in the tank after a female that i've been trying to breed has been introduced to a male, regardless of what i have seen or she looks like. I had a female Sonoran drop eggs last year who i never even saw take notice to my male, or look very large, but she was still gravid. Good luck with them.
Have a good one,
Gregg F.
