My new Epicrates Striatus *PICS*

RyanT Oct 04, 2008 02:05 AM

I just got this proven pair this week. I fell in love with Haitians when I was 9 years old when one tried to take my face off in my friend's pet store. Now 18 years later, I have some of my own. I've had a few Cubans, but never Striatus Striatus. They have a horrible musking notoriety, and they're very nervous, so it's best to handle them with a hook. But still fascinating. A very under appreciated Epicrates species.

Hey Ryan - great snakes, they both look very nice. God luck with them and hopefully they'll produce for you.

Thanks. I honestly don't have any interest in breeding them though. The babies only eat lizards and are just extremely hard to get going. That's the exact reason they're not commonly bred. Well hey, I don't feel like dealing with it either. Haha. I got what I wanted. Adults.

Wow, they are really nice, especially the reddish one! Always nice to see pics of the insular species.

Thanks for sharing,
Ed

They are gorgeous. Keep us posted if and when they breed for you. Since they are proven I hope you got all their breeding data since they have a set rhythm pattern already in place. Having such information will make breeding trials easier for you to duplicate and have a successful outcome.
