Breeding Advice

JMo Oct 04, 2008 10:11 AM

I plan on breeding my male amel corn with my female snow corn; this will be my first attempt at breeding.

I plan to stop feeding end of October and put them in hibernation mid - late November; I'll take them out of hibernation early March. Does this sound ok? or, should I be looking at a different schedule? I live in the northeast, but I'm not sure that has anything to do with their hibernation schedule?

Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

That sounds pretty good.
Make sure to give them at least three weeks from their last meal before brumating.
I usually stop feeding after the last Sunday in October and put them in the basement for brumation over Thanksgiving weekend.
I usually bring them back up around the first or second weekend in February. Some brumate longer some not as long. So far it has seemed to work for me.

That sounds good. You can even bring them up in mid- or late February. Many people use Thanksgiving to Valentine's Day as the brumation period for their snakes.

bring them up at end of January to mid February if you like......

they can go with 8 weeks of brumation......IF brumation is correct temps......you want like 50- 55 degrees if possible....higher can work....but too high can make them burn calories by now being in a true brumation....
