A couple of Arizona collareds

wwwwwells Oct 04, 2008 11:05 AM

A couple of days ago I was out exploring and I saw quite a few young collareds out. I was able to get close enough to these 2 for some photos.

I was talking photos of a rattlesnake when this little guy came out to see what was going on.

I put the rattlesnake up so I could take a few photos.

I though he had a neat pattern and will turn greener as he ages.

Will are these Sonoran collareds? In what area did you see these? I have a Sonoran male hat I got from the Dokais that has very similar coloring.

GREAT Pics!

eastern collareds not sonorans!! They have quite a different look to them. I think they used to classify them as bailyi eastern collareds.

They sure don't look like my baileyis. This is my little male "baileyi" or so I'm told. Of course I am new to all of this.

Rosebuds Oct 04, 2008 02:52 PM

Well, the head shape is different from the Sonoran, but the coloring is diferent from my baileyis. Is it age, perhaps?

the pics that Will posted earlier are of very young ones. You have an adult male(Bailyi)..thus the different look to them at this stage of maturation !!

Rosebuds Oct 04, 2008 07:04 PM

Ah! Thanks! I have a pair of young adults. Like I said, I am still very much learning about the different locales.

These are from the extreme western edge of the C. collaris range.
C. bicinctores are found just across the valley. They are young and when they mature they'll develope more greens/blues and yellows.

So are any of these hybrids?
