Minnie's lookin good....

rainbowsrus Oct 05, 2008 12:19 AM

Pulled back her moss today and wow she's really bloated out in the last couple of weeks. Due Tuesday and now I'm really pacing. No signs of any activity, no waxy stool and she's staying in her moss box 24/7 so not expecting babies any time real soon.

Really cool part of these pics is they clearly show the front half thinning out and the rear half bloating up. The enlargement starts from the loop at the top of the pics (an inch or two to the right of center) and extends toward the left all the way to the vent.

My Moss boxes are Plastic tubs with access holes, either in the lid or in the side of the box depending on application. I always do side access with full "U" cutouts whenver it could be used in a breeding cage. That way the snakes can't get "stuck" or injured when multiple body sections are passing through the same hole. If too much diameter for the hole, the lid will pop a bit.

I start with an inch of peat moss all nice and damp..

Then I add another inch of green tree moss. I get mine by the 25LB bale from Oregon.

The one shown for adults is a sterilte 15QT sweaterbox. I have a variety of cages for my adults, the breeding cages are 2' x 2' x 19" But interconnected with 4" PVC pipes...

I also use Boaphile plastics cages and Iris CB110 racks I had custom made by Animal Plastics for housing adults not in the current year breeding plans.

ooh nice, is the PVC pipe so they can go around and say hi to eachother? or what is the purpose of that?
and do you notice most of them in the water bowls or just some of them?
my male is in the water almost 24/7 but the females almost never go in their water from what ive seen atleast.

Yeah, the PVC pipes allow me to interconnect cages for breeding. Most of the year they are capped off to keep individuals isolated.

It varries and yeah, some are more liking the jacuzi while others are not as interested. Some of mine like water bowl sex even!!!
