Very few chain stores sell live feeders. I wanted to buy a mouse for scenting from one of them, but because they knew I had reptiles, I was actually refused. If you go in you have to buy the $5 live mouse.
Looks for smaller stores, not national chains. You will have better results that way.

that's weird, haha
they're allowed to refuse a customer like that?
what difference does it make what you do with something you pay for?
Our Petland stores here in the Midwest generally have both feeder mice and rats, and they're a chain of stores. If you don't see them advertised in the store, just ask. Sometimes they don't advertise that they have them, but they've got them in the back room out of sight.
I think it's pretty goofy that the clerks can decide what's ethical to do with what you buy and what isn't, too. But, I guess this is one of those gray areas in our culture where some people just have those taboos.
I have been refused there as well, though not in Hot Springs Ar. where I always got feeders at PetCo.. Go figure.

With running a rescue, I am kinda out at a place where I exhibit adoptable animals.

Yep. Being as they know I run a reptile rescue, they will refuse to sell me live rodents on the assumption that I will feed them. Its probably a good assumption

LOL. Maybe it was your fingers being crossed when you promised not to feed the hamsters to a python that was a tip-off..

i just got back from my local PETCO, and they do indeed sell live feeders. infact, they had almost every size from very small adult mice, to rats the size of my forearm, LOL!
i told the guy right away that i was feeding them to my snakes, and he jokeingly said that PETCO doesn't really condone live feeding, but he feeds his snakes live too.
it was only like $2.50 for a small adult i think.

Perhaps it is a regional thing. There is a local store here I buy them from.
Off to unpack the babies.
