a few basic questions/concerns

xXBloodRed Oct 05, 2008 11:22 AM

i got my blood on wednesday, and have him settled in nicely.
he is currently in a 20g glass viv, which seems fine and im able to keep the humidity at a constant level. But he has yet to voluntarily leave his hide unless i take him out to handle him. Is this normal, or do they usually not move around a lot at first? even through the night he hasn't come out.

I was thinking of moving him to a tub, but wasnt exactly sure what size tub, and what size heat mat i should buy. he is about 14-16" long now. help please!

When I first got my blood, it was only about 12 inches long and tended to either hide in its hide or bury down in the substrate for the first couple weeks. Sounds like yours is just trying to stay out of sight and get over the fear of a new environment.

Don't sweat it. I bet it will be out and about in the next week or two. Just leave it be and try not to handle it more (or at all) for at least a week. It's hard not to want to handle them when they're new, but you'll do your snake a favor by letting it sort things out on its own.

Good luck with your little one!

thanks for the reply : )
i decided to move him to a 32qt tub, and was wondering what size heatpad i should use in order to keep the right temps and wont burn through the plastic?

It took my latest baby approx. 10 days to start coming out of the hide, though he had eaten his first meal (at the cave entrance). Now he goes everywhere one the latest meal is nearly digested. Much more active than P. regius for sure!
