Scrape on tail, what to do?

macderin Sep 06, 2003 07:35 PM

I was checking over all my geckos last night and one of my females in a breeding trio has a scrape on her tail so the flesh was exposed. It looks like it has scabbed over and doesnt appear to have on infection, was wondering if I should do something about it or just keep an eye on her? I removed her from the other two. I would appreciate any help! Thanks

That is a common injury that happens during mating. Keep a close eye on her for egg development, and make sure she has an egg laying container. If you can keep her in her own cage until she is done laying, it would help keep the stress level down. As for her scrape, put a small amount of antibiotic ointment (Neosporin or Bacitracin) on it daily. Also make sure you spot clean any poop you find in her cage, at least until her scratch heals. Hope this help, and keep us posted.
