My hard head leos and their eggs.

dtrh08 Oct 06, 2008 06:52 PM

I have a LARGE tank that I custom built and house 3 females and a male. They get along fine and have produced 1 baby albino so far ( Took me a while to find a good place to keep the incubator in my house, the heat and humidity hear in Memphis is INSANE sometimes so I lost a good few eggs) .

One thing I wanted to see if anyone else has this "problem" My gals will NOT lay eggs in a egg laying box. Ive tried all sorts of different styles and they just poop in it! Ha. Every time they lay, they lay them where ever. Anyone else have this happen and have any comments or suggestions?

Also, When is the best time to take the egg and put it in the incubator... They usually lay them at night and I wake up to find them shriveled...I still incubate them for a week or more to be sure...but they usually dont make it. But this last clutch I found I saw one of the gals laying them and took them a minute or so after she was done... just wondering if I know they Leo is laying her clutch, how long should I wait to pop em in the incubator?

Thanks for any replies and sorry for the long post.
Ryan

Mine always lay in their moist hide which is a 48oz Glad container. What I did was cut a hole in the center of the lid for them to go in and out of. The hole is about 2-3inches in diameter I personally use vermiculite as the laying substrate and for the substrate in my incubating containers I keep the vermiculite moist but not wet it should form a ball when squeezed together but not drip water. I also keep my moist hide on the cool side of the tank. This might help with them laying in one area.
As for when to take the eggs out I ussually let mine bury them before I get them out cause a couple of my females seem to get stressed when I have taken them out before that and are digging looking for them afterwards. But if yours are still laying all over I'd take them out right away.GL
