m.e.phayrei health question

Praslin Oct 06, 2008 08:50 PM

This question is for Vic Morgan and other breeders/keepers of m.e.phayrei.

I have a mid-size female. She is 16" SCL. I've had her for some years now and she has never been ill one time. I noticed yesterday during feeding that she did not seem interested in eating any food. Anyone that has phayrei know that they don't turn down a meal. I moved her into a separate pen last night and placed some fresh food and a slice of pumpkin in her pen. Tonight she seemed just as lethargic, but I did notice a little pumpkin around her beak. I soaked her for about an hour this evening. She didn't drank. She just sat in the water. Her eyes are clear. She is not vocal though. Generally she makes a low, shallow hissing when she is disturbed. This time she just looks at you and opens her mouth slightly but makes no groan or hissing noise.

I did notice some small amount of clear fluid coming from her cloaca when I took her out the water.

I am taking her to my vet first thing in the morning to have her examined. I noticed she has just started exhibiting this strange behavior over the past weekend, so I don't want to delay in getting her checked out.

I do have a much smaller male that has attempted to mount and breed her over the summer, but I don't believe he was successful due to his size. I'm wondering if this female is maybe gravid or egg bound. Has any breeders experienced this before?

Regards,
Ryan

Ryan,I answered you per.e-mail.How is she doing now. What did the Vet say or do? Also sometimes during the season change your area may be to dry. This will make them feel vary bad and cause them to become inactive.A room with a hot air humitifyer could help. Please let us know.Vic Morgan
