Milk Snake Mimic?

RG Oct 07, 2008 09:27 AM

I found this Milk Snake mimic on Saturday morning (10 am, 78 degrees)...along with a few other neat creatures.

Now if this guy was as venomous...we would have a serious issue...Black Racer = non-venomous Black Mamba!

Nice! Good stuff, Rusty! It's always nice to see Micrurus posted. Any hints on where-abouts you were? Nice yellows on that beast.

Southern Brevard County, west of I-95...the closest town would be Malabar, Fl...you can mapquest it.

Another cool fact about Corals (Micrurus)...is when they are feeling threatened, they curl their tail around and it looks like a false head...this way the real head can stay hidden or find a way OUT...they are VERY cool snakes...to bad they are so HOT!

I just read here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coral_snake

they are no longer making micrurus anti-venom!

I had one for a pet a while back,( almost twenty years ago ) before I knew it was not legal of course. I loved that snake. Feeding was hard due to the fact it would only eat other snakes. Got loose in the house for a couple of weeks also. The day I found her is the day she left my house. Anyway, awesome shots as usual.

Thats a cool find Rusty. I've never been able to find a coral snake in the wild. Good shots!

I found this guy in Panama about a month back ...

I don't think that rhyme works for this one. Its a Pygmy coral snake.

Micrurus dissoleucus dunni, Farallon, Panama

Really great find Jon. Good photo too.

Those South American, and Central American Micurus come in all kinds of color combos. don't they.

That thing is awesome. I love the double white rings in each black section.

Not cool. I would have been ryming myself to sleep!! Pretty snake though. The head gives it away but I have never seen one of those before.

Well, like I have said before....if you and Cole come down...I'll supply the beer. Lots and lots of corals to be found here in Texas.

Nathan, thanks again for the offer. Cole and I are seriously considering it. I'll e-mail you when I get more time.

And about you buying all the beer. Cole said to me last night "I don't think Nathan understands how much beer we can drink."

We really aren't that bad. Besides Cole has to stop and pee to often to really put a dent in a keg. Haha, Cole.

I've only found 7 or 8 Corals in my entire life in Florida...they are really amazing snakes!

Glad you liked the pictures...
