I heard many good things as well. Mainly, they are known to have large litters......EXCEPT for the ones that I have. When I lost my original breeding colony (unknown mouse type) to Sendai Virus, I decided to purchase lab stock to be assured that the new breeders would be disease-free. I chose the Swiss Websters because of the large litter size. Well, my breeders seem to average about 8 per litter. Some do produce 12-15 babies but my overall average is low. Some of this may be a result of cannibalism....they do seem to have an appetite for babies. Also, unlike my old breeders, the Swiss Websters don't make good foster parents to someone else's pinks. In all fairness, my problems could be a result of environmental influences - conditions in the rodent room, checking in on them too often, etc.- but this is what I have experienced. As for health....they are excellent. I pull weanlings at 18 days old and harvesting about 600 per week not a single one has died. They are definitely healthy!!
