bakeaway Oct 08, 2008 09:15 PM

I am going away for a few days at the end of this month and there just hapeens to be a reptile show when I am there. If i buy something there, what would be the best way to get it home? On the plane? Ship it?

If it will fit in to your carrier on bag. Take it if you on the plane. The baggage compartment on most planes not have heat or are pressurize so it would me very cold for snake or what ever you buy. Or over night it back home with FedEx

ended good with the fedex idea.. but started off bad.. it is not a good idea to tell newbie's to smuggle animals onto a plane!

MikeRusso Oct 09, 2008 09:48 AM

In my opinion NONE of these ideas for smuggling an animal on a plane are good.. First off in a post 9/11 world don't you guys think that airport security has enough to deal with without guys trying to smuggle animals onto a plane?? Secondy, our hobby already has enough negative press and stigma attached to it already and we don't need to be advising people to do silly/illegal(?) things like smuggle a snake onto a plane to avoid a silly $50 shipping charge..

Guys, please either think before you answer questions like this or don't answer them at all!!!

I wasn't thinking about smuggling it, if you can bring a small dog in a crate that fits under the seat, why couldn't you bring a snake in a tupperware? I just wondered about the x-ray possibly damaging it.

that what I was thinking. That if some one can have a dog or cat as carrie on. why not a snake. I was not saying to smuggle it.

X ray wont do anything and people do bring snakes, etc with them on plane many even fish in luggage however if they are found they are confiscated or could be and you lose them.

Best idea is too talk to the breeder about having him ship it to you. Most of these breeders already have experience with shipping in a legal manner. No new pet is worth risking getting in trouble with the authorities. On top of that, if you get caught its another black-eye on the industry.

i would never bring it on my body on a plane,,to stressful for the snake and me,,,,,just thought there might be a way of doing it like they do when you bring a dog or cat on the plane,,,,i usually buy locally or have them shipped,,but since i was going to be there,,,thought i would ask,,,

Shipping would probably be the best and safest way to accomplish getting a new one home. You don't want your poor little snake subjected to the noise and craziness of flying in the cabin of a plane and putting it in the cargo bay probably wouldn't be good for it either...

As for "crating" it like a dog or cat, I'd be willing to bet the airlines wouldn't let you because it's not a cute little doggie or kittie so it might upset other passengers..
