Juvi to adult coloration

Guttersnacks Oct 09, 2008 12:19 PM

I've got 10 Okeetee babies and each is transitioning over to their adult coloration at different rates.

Has anyone noticed anything particular about this transition? Is it just growth related, or will the early bloomers turn out to be more bright or less bright as adults?

I just thought there might be a correlation. If not, no big deal. The thought just crossed my mind

i think the colors get "lighter" with each shed... but i believe it also depends on the snake... kinda like how there are early bloomers in humans, dogs, etc. sorry if i confused you

Well, when getting baby corns for teh shop I like to get oak babies. 1 they usually eat very well. 2 they are a great looking snake so easy to sell.

I've never tracked them, but I know I've had 20 or so and as hatchlings all dark. then like you say they change with age and number of sheds. I like to watch teh females that have the best colors. but it changes. 1 month I have my eye on a snake. Then 2 months later a snake that was rather non spiffy, all of a sudden is my top ranked baby.

I'd GUESS by 3 months you really start to see what they will be. But the number of sheds clearly has a great effect on how fast they will get there.

last year I was hiding a female. She had a background of a leather color. Quite different. She is one of my favorite customers. So, one day I sighed,, you looked at me and said what? I said, well, only for you. I brought her out and she said SOLD! I know the snake has a GREAT home.

If i ever found a male like that, I know who has a female lol

Hope I helped?
