No, I haven't eaten a python egg. But on a related note, I did find a local craftsman (here in New Orleans) who offered to make belts out of my breeders when they die. I can't decide if it would be a really cool and unique way to commemorate my treasured animals, to be able to celebrate their natural beauty for years to come, or if it's just downright creepy... akin, perhaps, to stuffing your dog and placing him on the mantle.
Hmm...

I had a similar thought about old treasured breeders that perish. I was toying with the idea in my head of hanging their skin on the wall. Like you said... not sure if it's a way to treasure their memory or just plain creepy.

Not nearly as creepy as a dog or cat. I would do it. I would even like to turn em into boots.
Its only creepy if you make it that way. If you think about it, some people cremate Aunt Ester and put her on the mantle. Personally, I don't see much difference.
True. But there's a difference between having Aunt Ester in a decorative vase on the mantle and having her stuffed and smiling in your entry hall, arms outstretched to take coats...

well, obviously, but I was referring to having the hide tanned and made into boots or something.
My blue beauty died a while back and is currently at the taxadermist getting tanned to make a belt.... I always figured with all the snakes being killed for their skin it would be a shame not to use what i could from her. If she had the meat i might have even made stew.....
I would stretch it for a wall hanging, but I would not make a skin of a beloved breeder into something wearable.
For one reason, people will admire the beauty of the animal and want one for themselves. Some may want a snake like your, Some may want a snakeskin belt like yours. Best not to temp people.

I dont think it's creepy but I think it's contributing to the snake skin trade...If they are making money off of your captivce snakes than you can bet they are doing the same with wild snakes.
