This morning when my daughter checked her gecko we discovered him to be turning black. I also noticed something in the cage that looked like it had been passed by the gecko (seemed to have undigested food) and it was quite large and did not look like anything that the gecko had passed before. This evening his color is returning to normal except for his toes. They still are gray-blackish. Does anyone know what causes this and should I find professional care? Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

Pictures would help us give more meaningful opinions than just a description. That said, if you have a good reptile vet in your area, it's probably worth getting the gecko checked out. That way you'll be sure of what you're dealing with. Yes, it'll probably cost more than you really want to pay, but wouldn't you rather pay to make sure nothing's wrong than not pay and end up with a dead pet? (Note that I'm not claiming your pet will die if you don't go to the vet; I'm just putting the two ends of the spectrum out there and recommending that a vet trip is probably a decent plan.)

I've never heard of anything like that before! A vet visit is not a bad idea....
Is your leo still eating and otherwise behaving normally?
