THE COLORADOAN (Denver, Colorado) 26 September 08 Mobile home fire caused by lamp on lizard's cage (Nate Taylor)
A fire at the Poudre Valley Mobile Home Park this morning has left a family of six homeless after a lamp on a pet lizard's cage overheated causing the fire, a Poudre Fire Authority press release said.
Luis and Olga Escobar have lived in lot 138 for 18 years at Poudre Valley Mobile Home Park, 2025 N. College Ave. One dog, three cats and a lizard died in the fire, although one cat survived after it ran from the blaze.
Arriving six minutes after a 911 call was made at 9:41 a.m., it took firefighters about 12 minutes to put out the fire. Neighbor Marilyn Brown called 911 after her son went outside to let their dogs out and saw the fire. Brown said she saw smoke coming from the swamp cooler on top of the home and fire through the kitchen window.
According to PFA, Olga Escobar left the home shortly before the fire started because Luis was in a car accident. He was not injured in the car accident, nor was anyone injured during the fire.
