Thanks, Randy! Glad to hear you like seeing them. Are you feeling the milk-a-thon this winter? Save up some photos...

Bring on the milk-a-thon. The only problem is your, Terrys and others pics make me want to get more into north american milks.

Cole, milks are still very active. I have found hatchling milks crawling in the open in the 2nd week of December in Mass while out deer hunting! They are more of a cold weather snake than most would believe...

Sunherp Oct 10, 2008 04:23 PM

I'm trying not to get too down, but I have a feeling that the 18" we're supposed to get this weekend is going to put them out of service until spring. We'll be hitting sub-zero temps before too long!

Finding a December milk would be fantastic, but I'm still working on finding anything past September up here!

Cole, you have internet porn. When your internet goes down you can get back to your manifesto! LMAO!

Nice pics man!

I feel ya man, I'm pretty sure its over for me too here in Great Falls. I'm sure I'll still be able to go check out a couple garter spots, but I know I wont be finding any more hogs this year. It sucks!

Later,
Dan

I think this is the end, as horrible as that sounds. I'll give you a call sometime this weekend.

Thanks, Dave! Oh yeah - we got 18" or so dumped on us in the last 2 days. Power's out all over and streets are blocked with broken branches. Aaah, nothing like the first snow of the year.

Snow?!? What? Come to think of it we have been cooling down to the upper 80's during the day... I guess winter is on it's way! Damn bro those NE animals are smokin' -- don't suppose I need to reiterate it too much though...

Another good post man and feel free to repeat shots of these guys anytime you feel the need!

Sunherp Oct 12, 2008 04:29 PM

Snow is right. Lots of it, too. And the best part... it's STILL snowing!

Great photo set Cole and the snakes look healthy and happy!
The Danes went and prowled a local park yesterday and found a huge garter cruising the blacktop. Temp was upper 60s and no wind but the herps are heading for the winter bunkers now.
Bummer about the early snow you guys got but on the other hand, the cold room is actually cold and breeding season begins in 3 months!
See? Look for the silver lining!
Thanx for posting the pics - very cool milks.....
Jeff

Sunherp Oct 12, 2008 04:30 PM

Thanks Shannon! Those Carbon Co. animals live in some harsh habitat, man - they're hard to come by!

Nice showing Cole.
Good to see the Sheridan NE animal getting a little show time.
And I'm w/ Shannon, the Carbon co. Pale is always great to see.

Now about this godforsaken snow. Man is this bs, I worked the river the last few days while the storm moved in, man was it cold and wet, sideways snow blowing in your face all day gets old fast. We spent more time standing around a fire smoking cigars, then we did fishing.

These snow photos are from a few years ago, I didn't get the snow shots this year, as it was to nasty to even get the camera out.

I don't think we will see any snakes for a while out on the crawl, but here are a few who have spent a few nights under piles of snow before. All shot out in the field.
Carbon co.

Stillwater co.

Yellowstone co.

Here are some habitat shots from Carbon co.

Very hard place to hunt multistrata in, hot and sweaty. Which I'll take over snowy and cold.

Thanks, Dell! It's sure been nasty, huh? I bet the last few days were horrible for you - this is about the only time I can say it'd suck to be a fishing guide!

Thanks for posting habitat shots so everyone can see what we have to deal with up here!
