Anyone here use snake boots?

tecuancoatl Oct 10, 2008 03:57 PM

I was just wondering whether or not "snake proof" boots are worth the money? I use regular work boots when hiking/herping, but have been thinking about snake boots for the added height and supposed protection they offer against snake bites. So if any of you can help with your opinions and suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it. Thanks.

You can get pretty good protection with thick, good-quality cowboy boots or high hiking boots. You just need to protect your lower leg as well as just your foot (which is why regular hiking boots don't cut it). That level of protection should be fine if you're just tramping around in the US. But if you're planning on going somewhere with anacondas or fer-de-lances or something else big and nasty, it would be worth it to shell out for the extra security of specialized snake boots.
