aboaslife Oct 10, 2008 07:20 PM

This is my first year breeding and I was wondering if its ok to feed while they are breeding if i take the male out? I have a female the last time she ate was 08/10 and she was good breeding weight then but now doesnt look like she is she refused to eat on 08/24 and again on 08/31 but is now real alert at anything that moves she just has that "ok feed me" look that she always had on feeding day she roams the cage alot too. well any advice would be greatful thanks

I'm a firm believer in feeding them when hungry breeding or not.

Yes. Pull the male. Feed a small meal to both. Put them back together in about three days.

I second that Larry...
I used to stop all feeding during breeding....
Big mistake in my opinion--I slow down before I start
the breeding season when the temps fall a little bit.
But after a couple of weeks temps are back up and feeding continues....its business as usual.
Im not sure if everyone else has experienced this, but
if I have a female that does not seem to want to ovulate, I feed her a smaller than usual meal and BAM! she almost always ovulates within a couple of weeks.

Bob I believe this is why I have a hard time identifying ovulations in fems. They Ovulate right after the meal.
