AnonymousReps Oct 10, 2008 09:51 PM

My Male Bull is "Twitching" when the Female touches him, I'm not to sure if he only does it when he get touched but its starting to worry me. When he sees me or I touch him he Twitches aswell...only seen him do that 2s tho.

When I say Twitch his Whole body moves in a forward motion and back again.

Any Ideas?

Stipid me...."Love Twitch" anyone?

derekdehaas Oct 10, 2008 10:10 PM

Most likely it is a breeding mood. Nothing to worry about.

Forgot to mention.....it also could not just the breeding mode but when the snake are "touched" they just twitch a little bit like being spooked by something that has just touched a snake. Or should i say "jumpy"

I typically see that behavior when two males are put together. It seems more like a "get off me" than a love twitch.

They are not social animals in the wild and would have no reason to accept or even want contact with other animals including other snakes except for that one special afternoon each spring!

I have noticed this behavior many times with Black Rat snakes as well, with same sexes and with opposite. Freshly caught Blacks will flick their tongues at each other and twitch, almost like they are checking each other out like a dog might. After observing this many times over the years, I think it is a form of communication, they are having some sort of basic conversation as you might call it- because I've seen it happen outside of the breeding season quite a bit.

Sounds like you are describing me and my wife...she seems to tolerate me "that one special afternoon each spring", lol
