Help with available black rat morphs?

cfr Oct 11, 2008 04:31 AM

Stepped away from breeding for a few years and have just started re building my collection. What black rat mutations have cropped up in the last few years. From what I've seen, base mutations of pure blacks have not really changed at all since I have been out of touch. I'm aware of the established albino, brindle, rusty, leucistic, and white sided(licorice). When I was getting out of black rats, I was aware of a second possible albino sometimes called lavender. Has this proven to be a T pos albino, or is it the "hypo" that I have seen listed several places? Are there any recent mutations that I have missed? I purposely left out any possible or questionable intergrade mutations. Not trying to ruffle anyone's feathers, just asking about proven pure black morphs. I have seen listed "halloween phase" black rats and "striped" black rats. Are these proven and true pure blacks? Sorry for the long post and multiple questions, but I know this is the place to ask the experts. Thanks for all of your help.

Will Bird is working with lemon & calico black rats, as well. Those are the only real new traits I know of, asides from combinations of other traits (albino brindle, etc. . .). Also, the "hypo" gene is supposedly T albino. It's been said to have been proven out through breeding that T albino, lavender, and hypo are all three the same trait.

I've never heard of Halloween phase, myself, and I was told the stripe gene was introduced from grey rats, but I don't have any proof of this.

I know the licorice has been cross w/ rusties, lavender, and brindles...there's alot of double morphs blk rats out there like lavender rusty ,brindle rusty, amel brindle ect

The next level in this game is the tri and quad produce morphs

Like redmoon said before Will's lemon and calico are fresh morphs
