Motley Argentine TINLEY

littleleeper23 Oct 12, 2008 12:24 AM

Hey Yall,

Not often on the Boa Forums. Did anyone see the Motley Occidentalis??? at Tinley, Almost made me get back into BCs.

They make the Super Motley look sick. Thiese things were absolutely incredible. Black belly, chin and throat.

DARK charcoal grey with the black irridescent motley pattern laid over the top. Normal motleys are even a sad comparison.

I will try to get a pic loaded later.

I want to say Brian Sharp had them, IF I AM WRONG PLEASE CORRECT ME!!!!!!

Seeing this new? Boa in person was almost worth the trip in and of itself.

God Bless, Lee Van hyfte

Do they have black bellies? they look cool. Thanks for sharing

littleleeper23 Oct 12, 2008 01:36 AM

They were black up to the point that I could see. In the photo you can see the chin and throat is really black. I did not ask to pull them out as I certainly could not afford one anyway. JUST DROOLING!!!!

Boa Constrictor are illegal in the county I live in. Yep even the mini insular forms!!!! SUCKS I really miss my hogg Islands.

They were amazing, but I believe they were at the "Reptiles by Mack" table. Mark

I saw I believe the first of these Arg Motley Boas in '04 I think at "Reptiles By Mack". Maybe it was '06 .
I missed them this year.

Here is a photo of my male Black Motley Argentine Het T-pos (PURE Argentine). This photo was taken as a baby. He is now 2-1/2 years of age (2006) and I am going to use him in this upcoming breeding season. My T-pos girls are plenty mature, but I am uncertain about this male ... I prefer my Columbian and Argentine males to be 3-1/2 years of age.

littleleeper23 Oct 12, 2008 12:45 PM

Question???

Did they discover a motley argentine? Is that the origin of the line?

I have seen Jeremy's T motley columbian that was impressive. I can only imagine a T argentine motley, should be interesting on what it does with the color.

The T argentines at the show looked like they were draped in orange lace. NICE!!!

The T-pos Argentine popped up in a captive breeding project in 1997 ... it was not brought in from a wild caught animal. Similarly, the Motley popped up in the same captive breeding project. As far as the T-pos Motley is concerned, it does exist and has the same coloration as the T-pos with the Motley pattern. Most of these Argentine morphs are just coming into breeding maturity.

It's nice, but I do not agree with you AT ALL about this morph being nicer than a 100%pure columbian mot. Just my two cent's.

littleleeper23 Oct 12, 2008 12:48 PM

Hi Reddog.

That is what is great about the hobby we have today. There is soooo much variety we can look to our personal tastes. Not just whatever wild imports came in a given year like it was back in the 80's.

Before you give up on the argentine motley though you ought to see them in person. They are exceptional. Fortunately, they are so different than the columbian motley they both have a great place in the hobby.

Those looked great at the show, and I hope people try to keep them pure BCO.

John Mack originated the "Hypo" Argentine Boas, as they were originally called. Now they are the "T-Positive" Argentine Boas. Pure Argentines and not crossed with anything else. From this very same Bloodline, in 2000 John Mack had a little surprise pop out. The absolute most beautiful Boa I have ever personally laid my bulging eyes upon. The worlds first pure Argentine Motley Boa. I just spent a half hour looking for the original picture I took of that little fellow at Daytona in 2000, but alas I could not find it. That image was a very good one showing him in all his blackness all curled up. What a creature!

As a tiny baby he was black as coal. Black black black! Mind bogglingly black. Not dark. Not gray or grey, but BLACK! The pattern was barely set off from the background color which was just barely lighter and a very dark shade of what I guess was a gray, but standing alone, anyone would identify it as in fact black. I found a picture of him that Celia Chien had taken some years ago. Here is that picture from Celia's web site:

Hi Jeff,

Well At least I am not nuts on thinking these Motley Argentines are INCREDIBLE!! I am a BALL PYTHON guy now and after seeing the Motley I am very tempted to diversify more.

Unfortunately, that means I will have to move to another County as BCs are illegal in the county I live in. I MISS MY HOGGs.

So the Motley argentine was a Spontaneous mutation. Talk about luck!! WOW!!

Lee

Hey have you heard anything from Mark Wendling. Miss My herp mentor have not seen or heard from him in nearly a decade.

jscrick Oct 14, 2008 02:11 PM

I think its criminal to make owning any Boa constrictor ssp. a crime. What have we come to in this country? They have got to be one of the mellowest and easily cared for serpent around. I'm spoiled. No longer want to own all the challenging species.
I agree, there are a lot of good traits with Bco. Didn't even know there was a pure Bco Motley. I have some nice Salmontines and a nice T pos., as well as normals. Good looking adults are stunning in their own right.

That is nothing!!!! Rubber boas are considered a dangerous animal and illegal to own. NOT A JOKE!! All constricting snakes are illegal in the city I live in! I keep my animals in a separate facility out of town!.........Totally sucks........Corn,kings, milks, Rosy boas you name it!!"dangerous"......... The law on the books reads like this Dangerous animals: all constricting snake (including those deemed harmless).............Ain't that a peach!.........I once spoke to the woman that had the greatest input on the ordinance. I asked her why she pushed to make that law, her answer "because I don't like snakes".................God Bless, Lee

jscrick Oct 14, 2008 03:15 PM

That is obviously some sort of discrimination. You can't legislate a matter of taste. I'd get it removed.

Did you ever review Rio Bravo's info for the odds of dieing as a result of a reptile? Neat info from the US census bureau................As I recall you are 5 times more likely to die as a result of an asteroid hitting you. Hmmm Pretty soon they will make hard hats mandatory too. LEE

I talked to Mark Wendling several years ago. Mark is retired now if I remember right. Sleeping late and chasing the wife around the house all day. LOL Just kidding. He is, or was last time I talked with him, well. If you were ever to his place, you know he lived in absolute paradise. The perfect location at the end of the road on the other side of a hill with a little pond out back in a hilly area of Iowa. In fact the last stand of trees standing in the state of Iowa is surrounding Mark's place. The perfect place if you ask me.

Hi Jeff,......I used to go out to his little paradise about once a month for coffee and a little breakfast. It was heavenly, Can't believe they sold the place. I guess it was just time to move on.........Well there is a tree in my yard.... That makes 2 ha ha...... Yes we are the land of NO TREES!! I still think Nebraska beats us in that regard though. I think they used all the trees in the state to make telephone poles HA HA!!. Last time I was on 71N you guys were catching up!! I cannot believe how much deforestation has occurred in the last 10 years or so in MN. OH MY GOSH!!...........Lee
