How big do cali kings grow?

lostsorrow Oct 13, 2008 01:37 AM

Hey all,
I was just wondering how big cali kings grow. My blizzard just shed so I measured it. It was 50 inches long. Is she full grown or can I expect more out of her?
Thanks in advance.

They usually top out around 4 feet, but can grow larger.

Measuring the shed isn't really accurate. The old skin is stretched out up to 30% more, making your measurements longer than the snake really is.

I have seen/had several over 5', and some wild ones close to that. I don't think all will get that long, there seems to be variation. I have heard rumors of Cal kings at 6', captives. Perhaps Brian Hubbs will enlighten us on record size animals with his new book? Really big ones are impressive.

Well I wouldn't mind if she hit 6'. She eats like a champ and her temperment is unheard. She has never tail rattled, musked, or even tried to bite me or my daughter. I was just asking cause I needed to know if I had to plan on getting a new tank for her or not. She still has 10" to go in her old one but if she is full grown then im set lol.

This is the biggest one I have ever seen. 16 years old and somewhere around 5 and a half feet. I have seen some that were heavier maybe but never longer.

and the above poster is right, shed skins are not at all accurate. If you want to measure your snake get it to crawl through a tube, run a string down its back, or take a picture of it on a tile floor then go back and measure the tiles... Oh the things you can find to do when your board...
