Dragon turning trans pics and Q's

chris allen Oct 13, 2008 10:23 AM

So, having not really been around these translucents for long, Im not all that sure about them and this one dragon I have seems to be turning trans. The first pic is before this last shed, then the other pics are after the shed. Is this normal for how trans progress, or are they normally visible as trans as babies? If you breed a trans to a normal are you getting some trans or just hets? Is this recessive or co dominant?
Here's the pics

hy
i am alessandro from italy.
first let me tell you how i have really apreciated your animal in the past...happy you are around again.
back to your animal. to me it look a translucent for sure, you can see it from the colour of the spines on the side, the blue belly and few other things. sometimes it happen that when they jus hatch they don't have the special black eye so they seems to be "normal".
the translucent act like a recessive so no visible het.
of course the "specialists" can tell you more than me.
by the way....nice animal!
best wishes
alessandro

Hey Alessandro, thanks for your reply. I think I have read that some people have had trans pop up from a trans to normal breeding??? Same as with the hypos, some people get babies with clean nails from a hypo x normal breeding. Not sure, but I think thats what I read. So, if they have normal looking eyes as babies, is there a noticeable difference between the trans and the hets/normals? This dragon did not look trans at all. Its really interesting to see something like that change.

I really like your dragons.....maybe one day I can get my hands on some from you!

Hi Chris, there is a lot going on with the trans morph. Every time I think I've seen everything, something new pops up. Trans usually work in two different ways: They hatch trans with dark eyes(they will stay this way to adulthood), or they hatch looking partially trans with normal eyes, and progressively change as they grow. The head will be the very last part to lose white color. When this happens, the eyes should change over(but not 100% of the time). You should be able to tell right out of the egg if they are trans or not. Yours probably is a het that is turning trans. Het trans usually will lack white color, and occasionally you will get one that turns completely trans. Hope all this makes sense...I'm not a good writer. I would breed it and see what happens. Very cool! Josh
