Pippers stuck?!?!?

bosoxbomb Oct 13, 2008 11:15 AM

2 honduran eggs out of a 5 egg clutch had slits and slight pipping. After 5 days of no progress I enlarged the slit creating a window. Again, the little critters are refusing to exit their egg. it has been another 3 days and it appears that there has been some drying out or the egg fluid and the snakes are stuck to the egg lining and shell. I attempted to gently pry but it tore some skin and it is now bleeding. Need advice from some of the experts out here to save these little guys.

Once you have cut the egg good that is about all you can do. If they can't make it out after that by themself they probably have some problem and just weren't meant to make it. I would just make sure to keep the humidity high and hope for the best. Good luck.

I don't know if it would help but if you want to do something try keeping some damp spagnum moss on top of them to help keep them moist.

This albino Nelson's took six days to get out of its egg - sometimes it just takes awhile. I'd make sure that the humidity is high, to give them an easier time hatching.

Are you sure you actually tore the snakes skin? That seems a little odd and blood during hatching is something I see all the time.
If the eggs and snakes inside them are that dry, which is an extreme I have never seen before I personally would put a few drops of water in each one. Just to see what happens.
I am not much of a cutter, but at this point I'd probably operate on at least one to get a better idea of what is goin on inside those eggs.
I have had them take several days to emerge but it seems like you may be facing something else having to do with them drying out during the final stage before the snake leaves the egg?
I hope this works out for you and your babies come out nice n healthy, but I have had Hondurans pip, and look smokin hot....and then days go by and I finally cut the egg and out fumbles a massively kinked baby that could not get out of the egg..... it is always a bummer but its part of this hobby. Good luck

thanks for all the good advice. This morning they were still had not emerged, BUT they were no longer stuck to the egg. I saw free movement and a lot more moisture in the egg. I surrounded the egg in SOAKED Spaghum moss and it must have restored the egg to a more pliable condition. Never-the-less, I tickled the bottom of the eggs and they both exploded out of the egg and barely caught them before they escaped out of their container. They are HUGE!!!! I've got year olds that aren't that big. hope to get pics out later to show the forum RESCUERS. Thanks guys for y our help.
