Shedding question?

knottydread Oct 13, 2008 04:34 PM

I've got a quick question I'ld like to get some feedback on. I just got 8 08 ball's a few months ago and their shed hasn't been exactly perfect.

Right now they are all in 20 gallon aquarium's and we use newspaper as their substrate. Someone mentioned that it would help dramatically if I switched to cypress as long as it was 100% pure, I'm not so sure if that is going to fix everything ?

Our humidity seems about right in the high 70s?

Any advice? Should I switch from newspaper?

Thanks!

Cypress mulch might help - pretty hard to get round me, but I'm told it holds humidity pretty well. Covering part of the screen top on that tank would help as well - glass tanks with screen tops and UTH / heatlamps can get pretty dry.

I'd also consider adding a humid hide - an enclosed hide with a damp moss substrate where they can go pre-shed.

(And if they're all in one or just a few tanks together . . . consider separate housing.)

They are all in separate tanks

Might have to figure out a way to make their hides more humid like you were saying so that they can go in and shed, a friend of mine who owns a snake store was trying to tell me something the other day but I was drunk at the time.... might have to go back and ask him...
